Remember - Sketchy Tuesday

I have to be honest - at first glance of this sketch, my first thought was "NO WAY".  The circles were freaking me out a little - such a pain to cut at times.  Anyway, I decided to dive in anyway and 'interpret' it a little differently and I actually quite like how it turned out.

Just goes to show - even the most daunting of sketches can be workable if you just make them your own!!

On the Sunny Side

Hello everyone!!!  Sorry for the blogging break but things have been a little hectic around here.

Just wanted to pop in today though to share a couple of recent layouts.  These both feature the fabulous On the Sunny Side collection from My Mind's Eye.  Love these products!!

This second layout was actually completed as part of a class at Scrapping Turtle and Lori mentioned that she was inspired by a layout from Pinterest but I have no idea who the original creator was so please if you recognize it don't think I am taking credit for the design.

Catching up.....

I am happy to have been able to enjoy a lot of scrappy time this weekend.  I miss it!!

One of the things I have been doing is catching up on incomplete projects.  A bunch of these were make & take kits from Scrapping Turtle.  The Turtle offers a new layout make & take each week for only $2.  They really are fabulous - you should pop in and check them out!!

Here are a bunch of them.  Some of them are varied slightly from the original.  My own creative license I suppose.

Today is Family Day here in Ontario so I am going to get some more scrappy time in today too!!

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

I am a bad, bad blogger!!  It has been a full week since I have posted anything.  I could blame it on the bisyness of the Christmas season but really I haven't been that busy yet.  Yet still, there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day.  I tell ya - working for a living really gets in the way of my crafting time!!

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

It is a new week and a new month!!  So, here I am again to share what I created for the Turtle.  For December I am playing with the Let's Eat collection from TPC Studio.

The first Monday of the month always marks a new Product of the Month!  This month is focusing on Ranger Accents - Glossy, Crackle & Enamel.

Anyway, here is my project for today.....

Crackle Accents - I took a chance and put some on this pie die cut and was very happy with the results. It is hard to see in the picture but it really gave it a realistic pie crust look.

Enamel Accents - I covered this photo turn with the white Enamel and love the glossy look it gave it.

Glossy Accents - These are a long-time fave of mine. I added some to the corrugated heart and the "Sweet" letters to give them a little extra pop.

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

This week the Scrapping Turtle team is working on a Style Challenge.  Playful Charm is what we are working with.

This style incorporates complementary colors in muted or bright tones. Paper with coordinating patterns, checks, dots, strips, and accents such as paper dolls, three dimensional and whimsical accents are common.

Here is my take on this style. I have a really hard time creating based on different styles. I tend to just 'do my thing' and see how it turns out.

A Turtle Tutorial

I just thought I would share a tutorial I created for Scrapping Turtle.

Badge Holder Birthdays

One of my crafty goals is to send a birthday card to everyone in my family (I have to justify buying all of those stamps somehow!!). Well, if you have been following my blog at all then you know I have A LOT of family!! Sometimes, there is just too much stuff in my brain and I can't always remember the dates. So, I decided to make myself a memory aid.

I have to admit that these ideas are not my own. I have seen similar things around the web and I just crammed them together into one project.

Let's get to it.....

Here is a list of what you will need....

1. A package of badge holders (I picked mine up from Staples)

2. cardstock in the base colours of your choice (White is probably best for your birthday list but an alternate

soft neutral colour would work)

3. Patterned Paper of your choice (I used one of my 6x6 Lime Twist pads from My Mind's Eye)

4. You will also need whatever additional embellishments you wish to add

Step 1: First thing you want to do is open up your badge holders and remove the string. Feel free to toss it since you won't need it.

(Once upon a time, I would have added it to my scrappy stash because 'someday' I just may put it to use but I am trying to control the natural packrat in me.)

Step 2: Cut your cardstock. The white pieces will be used for your monthly lists. (Mine are cut to 2.5x3) The red pieces are the background. (Mine are cut to 3.25x4 but this could change depending on the size of your badge holders.)

 

Step 3:  I used a Papertrey Ink stamp to stamp the lines on each white piece.  You could use a similar style of stamp; ruler and do them yourself or you could print from your computer.

Step 4: Use a marker and add each month to the top of your lists. Once all 12 are completed, add in the birthdays you wish to remember.

Step 5: Assemble and embellish each month's list as you wish. I did not take pictures of this part as this is entirely up to the individual.

Note: I adhered a month's list to both sides of the red cardstock to avoid things being too bulky in the badge holders.

Step 6: Once all pages are complete, slide them into the badge holders. I tied mine together with twine from The Twinery (also available at Scrapping Turtle).

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

This week we are working on a technique challenge over at Scrapping Turtle.  The goal is to use a product for something other than its' original or most-common use.

I decided to stick to basics for this challenge. I used basic product on my layout but tried to "think outside my shell" and changed things up a bit.

1. Patterned paper is generally expected to be laid down on our layouts. I cut some circles out of mine and made a handmade flower.

2. The red "Christmas" chipboard letters were fabulous as they were but I wanted to add a little extra pop so I covered them in some fine glitter.

3. The "Family" cardstock sticker is generally intended to lay flat on the page but I decided to double matte it and pop it up.

4. The Baker's twine is generally used for knots in buttons or perhaps strung across the page like ribbon but I decided to change things up and make a flower with it.

I hope this helps you see that techniques don't have to be complicated or stressful. Take a technique and stick to the basics with it and you are sure to create some fabulous layouts!

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

It is Monday and that means a new reveal for Scrapping Turtle.  It is also the first Monday of a new month so that means a new batch of goodies to play with.  This month I am playing with the super adorable Bella Blvd line - Christmas Wishes! 

The first week is always about the Product of the Month at the Turtle.  This month we are highlighting the fantastic On Display Embellish Me frames from Fancy Pants Designs.  I love them!!

Here are my projects......

The first one I did uses my kit for this month and shows you that you don't have to stick to the intended theme of collections. This Christmas collection worked perfectly for this project as long as I was choosy about which patterns I used!

Online Cropping at the Turtle!

Design Team Monday at the Turtle!

Good morning all!!  Sorry I have been a slacker but last week was a bit of a rough one.

Anyway, I am back with another DT project for Scrapping Turtle.  This week we are focusing on the technique of stamping.  Easy peasy for me - I LOVE my stamps!!!!

The first technique I used was stamping then heat embossing on a button. You have to be careful when stamping because it is very easy to slide on a button.

Tip: When heat embossing, make sure you put a heat resistant tray or trivet down under your button. I learned that the hard way and have the scorch marks in my carpet to prove it. 

The second technique is combining stamping & die-cutting. I stamped this banner image then die cut it out.

For the third technique I stamped the heart image and then covered it in Glossy Accents.
